Dedham isn't only home to the famous Dedham Pottery, but also to a growing array of talented and diverse artists in myriad media, ranging from sculpture and murals to paintings and jewelry. Dedham Open Studios will be a relaxed and fun one-day community event, where local artists can show and offer their work for sale.
Dedham proved to be an ideal location for an open studios. With ample parking at all locations, a shuttle bus to bring visitors to all the group sites and easy access to home studios, it was easy for visitors to visit multiple locations. The town itself if only 10 miles X 10 miles making it possible to visit home studios that are on opposite ends of town.
With a public art project in the works for this summer and a proposed community and arts center in East Dedham with artist studio space being made available, there is a renaissance that the original artists of our famed Dedham Pottery would be proud of.
Who runs Dedham Open Studios (DOS)?
DOS is a team effort that started with the vision of Dedham resident and local blogger Jennifer Barsamian in 2010. The idea was met with so much enthusiasm that many were looking to help. A team of about 10 residents came together to make DOS 2011 a huge success. This year, Dedham Shines (a 501c3 umbrella organization) has taken DOS under its wing. Under the guidance of Monika Wilkinson and Jennifer Barsamian, another team of residents and community leaders will come together to make sure DOS 2012 is an another huge success.
Our artists will be displaying their work in a variety of locations throughout town - in many public sites as well as in their own homes.
